WAUKESHA — Waukesha police say an officer was injured on Monday, July 27th while trying to take a wanted suspect into custody.
It happened in the 1700 block of Elder Street in Waukesha, and the initial call for this incident came in shortly before 4:00 p.m.
Police say officers were sent to an address to try to take a wanted individual (a 22-year-old man) into custody. They were able to make contact with this individual — but the suspect fled the scene.
The officer was injured when he pursued the suspect, and we’re told the officer was engaged in a physical struggle with the man.
A perimeter was established in the area of Grandview and Summit Avenue.
A witness alerted police to a suspicious person at a nearby business, and officers found the wanted suspect hiding in a business on Summit avenue.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department assisted the Waukesha Police Department.
The officer who was injured sustained a non life-threatening injury to his leg. We’re told that officer is in his first year with the Waukesha Police Department.
The suspect in this case was wanted on a statewide warrant for failure to appear in court in Columbia County on felony forgery charges. He was also wanted on warrants for theft and a probation violation out of Columbia County.
